Visa
Here you will find important information about travelling to Germany. Please apply for your visa as early as possible, as there may be longer waiting times.
Who needs a visa for Germany?
EU citizens and citizens from Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland do not require a visa for Germany.
All other nationalities require a visa. For visits of up to three months, the European Community has waived the visa requirement for some countries. These include the USA and many other American countries.
For a short-term stay of up to 90 days in the Schengen area, it is necessary to apply for a Schengen visa.
The Schengen visa must be applied for at the diplomatic mission of the country that is your main travel destination, i.e. Germany. If you apply for a Schengen visa at a German diplomatic mission, Germany must be your main destination.
Up-to-date information on visa requirements can be found on the website of the Federal Foreign Office.
